Local Scout's Journey Gains Momentum!

Community Support Helps Joshua Reach Halfway Mark of Fundraising Goal

Twelve-year-old Joshua from Waltham Chase is making fantastic progress on his journey to the 2027 World Scout Jamboree — and he’s already raised over half of his £3,590 target thanks to the incredible generosity of his local community.

Since launching his fundraising campaign, Joshua has been overwhelmed by the support he has received. Friends and family have given generously, and he has been working hard to contribute himself — washing cars, painting fences, and even helping out on a local allotment to earn money towards his goal.

“I’m really grateful for everyone who has supported me so far,” says Joshua. “It means a lot that people believe in what I’m trying to achieve. I’ve been working hard and I’m excited to keep going!”

Joshua, a dedicated member of Denewulf Scout Group, is raising funds to represent Bishops Waltham at the World Scout Jamboree in 2027 — a once-in-a-lifetime event bringing together tens of thousands of Scouts from over 150 countries. The experience will offer opportunities to develop leadership skills, build international friendships, and represent his local community on a global stage.

There’s still work to be done, and Joshua has a series of exciting fundraising events planned in the months ahead. These include a car boot sale, a community quiz night, and selling Christmas-themed crafts later in the year.

As part of his fundraising efforts, Joshua is also inviting supporters to take part in — or sponsor — a special challenge event. On 12 September, Joshua and his family and friends will walk 22 miles along the Thames, passing 20 London bridges, starting at Richmond Bridge and finishing at Tower Bridge.

This ambitious challenge is a key milestone in his journey, and sponsorship from the community will play a vital role in helping him reach his goal.

“We’ve been amazed by the support so far,” said Joshua’s family. “Every donation and word of encouragement has made a real difference, and we’re so thankful to everyone who has helped him get this far.”

The Bishops Waltham, Waltham Chase, and Swanmore communities have already shown tremendous support — but Joshua still needs help to reach the finish line
