72 HERALDS

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come. And he said to them: […] Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house! […]. Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” (Luke 10)

The 72 Heralds project addresses a significant need in our area. In the Romsey and North Baddesley area alone, there are more than 15 care homes. Many elderly people spend the last part of their lives there, far from their loved ones. Some of them are Catholic. Conversely, our communities have many people who are happy to visit residents, bringing the comfort of the Eucharist to Catholics, praying with fellow Christians and spending time with anyone who wishes to join them. Our aim is to bring Jesus Christ, and his hope and peace, to those people in the care homes.

A priest is always available to administer the last rites, the anointing of the sick and hear confessions.

Our volunteers visit care homes at least once every two weeks. If you would like to find out if we regularly visit a care home of interest to you and when, please email us at: 72heralds.sswp@gmail.com.

We hope to be like the 72 disciples sent out by Jesus to spread the good news of the Lord to all who are waiting for it.
